Visit Northumberland

01 / Overview

The Visit Northumberland project was an ambitious initiative by the Northumberland County Council aimed at boosting tourism through a captivating online presence. his project successfully married aesthetic appeal with technical efficiency, creating a digital gateway that invites exploration and promotes Northumberland as a premier tourist destination.

  • Design: I was instrumental in transforming Figma designs into customisable Kentico page components, which empowered the content team with unparalleled flexibility to tailor each page on the site to perfection.

  • CMS: Built on the robust Kentico CMS, the website not only showcases the beauty and allure of Northumberland but also provides potential visitors with a seamless user experience.

  • Data: A significant aspect of the project involved migrating data from the council's previous database into the new Kentico system, ensuring a smooth transition of valuable tourist information.

  • Speed: Given the initial performance challenges with the Kentico system, we implemented a series of optimisation measures, including strategic caching, to enhance site speed and reliability

  • DevOps: Continuous integration and deployment are streamlined through TeamCity, ensuring seamless updates to the Memset server

02 / Problem

Northumberland County Council wanted to boost tourism with a more appealing website, and needed the data from its previous database moved across to the new one.

03 / Decisions

Kentico was slow out of the box, so we put a series of optimisations in place, including strategic caching, to keep the site fast and reliable for visitors.

04 / Outcome

The content team can tailor every page from customisable Kentico components built from the Figma designs, and we migrated the council's existing tourist information across.
