NCL Guide

01 / Overview

For a second-year university project, I co-developed NCL Guide, an Android app to help students and visitors navigate Newcastle's nightlife. We centralised scattered information on happy hours, club nights, and special events, making it easy to find what was happening across the city's many pubs and bars.

Built with Java in Android Studio, the project was a practical exercise in mobile development and teamwork, earning our team a 75% final grade for the module.

  • As part of a small team, I was responsible for designing and building the core user interface, including the main venue list and the detail screens that displayed event information.

  • I helped structure the data model for venues and events, which allowed users to quickly filter and find relevant happy hours or club nights for any given day.

  • The project gave me hands-on experience building a native Android application from scratch, managing project requirements, and collaborating effectively within a development team.
