Pulse
An event discovery platform for London's independent venues, grassroots gigs and nightlife.

01 / Overview
I built Pulse, an event discovery platform for London, to help people find the grassroots gigs, comedy, and club nights that often get buried by mainstream ticketing sites. My goal was to give independent venues and emerging artists the visibility they deserve by pulling all their events into one place.
As the sole developer, I architected the full-stack system. This included a robust data pipeline in C# / .NET using Hangfire background jobs to automatically ingest, deduplicate, and standardise event data from sources like Skiddle, Gigantic, Fever and WeGotTickets.
To enable location-based discovery, I implemented geospatial search using PostgreSQL with the PostGIS extension. This allows users to instantly find events “near me” or within specific London neighbourhoods, a key feature for on-the-go planning.
The frontend is a fast, server-rendered Nuxt / Vue application. I also created a unique “Roulette” feature—a spring-physics wheel that spins to a random event—as an engaging way for users to find something new without endless scrolling.
To ensure reliability, I set up a complete CI/CD pipeline with GitHub Actions that runs a suite of Playwright end-to-end tests before automatically deploying the containerised services to Google Cloud Run.
02 / Problem
London's grassroots gigs, comedy and club nights are scattered across dozens of ticketing sites and tend to get buried under mainstream listings, so independent venues and emerging artists struggle to be found.
03 / Decisions
04 / Outcome
Pulse lists London's independent events in one place, with PostGIS-powered "near me" search, a Roulette wheel for picking something at random, and Playwright tests that run before every deploy to Cloud Run.
