A taxi app connecting you to existing local taxi operators

01 / Overview

I developed taxigoat, a mobile app that connected riders with established local taxi companies rather than individual drivers. The platform aimed to help traditional taxi firms compete with modern ride-sharing services by providing them with a complete digital toolkit, including separate apps for customers and drivers.

  • As the sole developer, I built both the customer and driver apps for iOS and Android from a single codebase using C# and Xamarin.Forms, which streamlined development and simplified maintenance.

  • I created the supporting backend using a .NET Web API to manage all core logic, including user accounts, ride requests, and dispatching to taxi company web portals.

  • To deliver a polished user experience, I integrated multiple Google APIs for real-time mapping, route planning, and address search. I also implemented Stripe to handle all in-app payments securely.

To support the taxigoat ride-hailing service, I built two distinct web portals: one for taxi company operators and another for system administrators. These applications provided the essential tools for operators to manage their fleets and for administrators to oversee the entire network of participating companies.

The portals replaced manual processes, giving operators and admins direct control over the data that powered the customer-facing mobile apps.

  • I developed the frontend for both portals from the ground up using Vue.js, translating designs into a library of responsive and reusable components that ensured a consistent user experience across different management tasks.

  • A key feature was the deep integration with Google's mapping services. I used the Maps, Directions, and Places APIs to create an interactive dashboard where operators could visualize routes, track drivers, and manage ride requests in real-time.

  • I connected the Vue.js frontends to the backend by implementing the required endpoints in the existing .NET Web API. This enabled secure CRUD operations for all system data, including drivers, vehicles, and ride histories stored in SQL Server.

02 / Problem

Traditional local taxi firms were losing out to ride-sharing apps because they didn't have the digital tools to compete.

03 / Decisions

As the sole developer, I built both the customer and driver apps for iOS and Android from one Xamarin.Forms codebase, which kept four apps manageable for one person.

04 / Outcome

Both apps run on a .NET Web API that handles accounts, ride requests and dispatch to local taxi operators, with Google Maps routing and address search and Stripe payments.
