Centre for Life

01 / Overview

I built the website for the Centre for Life, a science village in Newcastle upon Tyne. The goal was to create a digital hub where visitors could explore upcoming exhibitions, learn about events, and book tickets directly, making the Centre's offerings more accessible to a broader audience.

  • I developed a robust and secure backend using C#, .NET, and SQL Server to manage all event data, content, and ticket booking information.

  • A core part of the project was building a custom Content Management System (CMS) from scratch. This empowered the Centre’s team to independently update exhibitions and manage event details without needing developer assistance.

  • For the frontend, I used JavaScript and Sass to build an engaging and responsive user interface. I translated the Figma designs into a library of reusable components that were integrated into the CMS, ensuring a consistent look and feel across the site.

02 / Problem

The Centre for Life wanted visitors to be able to explore exhibitions and events and book tickets directly online, so its offerings would reach a wider audience.

03 / Decisions

I built a custom CMS from scratch, with the Figma designs turned into reusable components that plug into it, so the Centre's team could update exhibitions and events independently.

04 / Outcome

Visitors browse exhibitions and events and book tickets online, on a C#, .NET and SQL Server backend.

05 / Stack
